Trump supporters here is your bridge you’ve been asking for.

November, 30th 2016

No I’m not tricking you. You are asking for discourse so I’m offering it. You see I understand there were many single reasons to vote for Trump, just as he has a few “character flaws” that I’ll get back to.

Now I know we’ve been angry, I’ll explain why later. Right now this about you. Specifically the people about to get hit hardest. The people most Democrats want to help but haven’t been able to. And I know any facts about tied hands will do me no good. This is your life at stake. I understand.

Maybe he told you he’d bring jobs back, and you believed him. Maybe he voiced the rage you’ve been feeling inside for far longer than eight years. He certainly tried to appeal to those of us hitting our heads against the poverty line. Yes I said us. My fiancĂ© and I have been on food stamps we’re just escaping paycheck to paycheck and only by a little. I rely on Obamacare complete with preexisting condition. As do a fair number of you.

Maybe you were really moved by “Make America Great Again” and though he would never give a concise explanation of what that meant, it was powerful. It perhaps even felt vindicating. You felt like someone get’s you. But what makes America Great is actually in danger now, and I’ll get back to that too.

Perhaps you have a lot of money, and you saw your opportunity to make more, or have reduced taxes, or bring us back to the stone age energy wise. I’m not talking to you because you are part of the problem.

No I’m talking to those who have been screaming into the winds. “Why doesn’t anyone understand?” The economically downtrodden white Americans who really did just want the best. People who voted for Obama and think because we achieved that racism is only a minor problem. You tell us that’s not what your vote meant, and I believe you. Why does it seem no one is listening?

Well, at first we couldn’t accept it. (getting back to those flaws) Was it misogyny that a more (or at all) qualified woman wasn’t elected? Was is racism? Didn’t everyone see that video of Trumps sexual assault remarks? Well, no, not everyone did. Just like not everyone heard Trump wants to slash the benefits we all need. I know you believe that in a polite society we look after each other. But Trump isn’t going to provide the bedrock we need for that. Many found him charismatic and charming. Some of us wonder how, but that’s the problem. Our messages aren’t getting across to each other.

I also understand this whole racist thing has you confused. You didn’t vote for his views on minorities. But we do have to live with them. I know many thought the racism was just talk to get elected - hell at first I did too, though let’s face it there was nothing he could do to win me over after trying that. But here’s the thing, history has seen the same walk before in 1930’s Germany. Trump isn’t going to provide you with the financial relief you need. And some people are going to get angry. But Trump is setting them up to believe our problems are due to minorities. I know, ridiculous, but the danger he poses by trying to so unfairly deflect from himself is that angry people who still believe him will lash out. This is how concentration camps happen, I shit you not.

Now maybe you still think that’s all talk. He hasn’t been in office yet. But many of the house and senate have been for a while now, some six years at least. And they’re looking forward to a blank check to change government and America for literally decades to come. Maybe we’ll all be surprised, maybe Trump will refuse. But judging by who he’s put on his cabinet that faith is misplaced.

Where to put it? The Democratic party is pissing you off. (us too). Third Party isn't an option at the moment. How about us regular liberals? We know you were eyeing Bernie Sanders as someone who seemed like he cared. We love him too. But while the Democratic establishment has considerable flaws, being out of touch is probably better then following a certain German playbook.

Back to what makes America Great. The diversity. Maybe you don’t see it much where you are, but all these big ideas that drive the new economy come from very diverse areas. All religions, all genders, all sexualities, all races, immigrants, and disabled people bring great thinking to our melting pot. Do you remember that? It was the first thing we heard in school when my family arrived from the UK. America is a melting pot. Now there is something to be proud of.

Most of us converge and pay ridiculous prices just so we can live where we feel we are accepted. But also because we can’t get jobs anywhere else. Sometimes I feel trapped by the bay area because it can be just as unwelcoming as it is accepting. (I’m looking at you, Lexus driver from my morning) I’ve been to rural areas and frankly most people there are nicer than your average person driving through San Francisco - wait that’s unfair to the rural areas, they’re way nicer.

So I can see how you would feel trapped. You’re not making it at home, but why one earth move to one of the cities that have all those cranky ass people? I used to live in Rural Sonoma County before this, just on the outskirts of Petaluma, and I miss it fiercely. I can see why you would stay.

I may look to you like one of those crazy liberal freaks with my green hair, long skirts, and actual mental health condition. But I’m sincerely offering you a bridge. I see you. I get you. I care. I’m no longer mad at you. I’m sorry I was (In my defense, as a minority, this was a little personal). But now please work with us to stop the Republican establishment get away with murder. Literally murder. People will die if they get rid of the Affordable Care Act better known as ACA or Obamacare. People will die when the economy tanks again, oddly timed to presidents. People will die if concentration camps are brought back. I’m sorry, internment camps. The point is a lot of people will suffer.

Join us, fight back, call your representatives, write letters, we all want a fair economy and we can get it - if Trump doesn’t turn the next four years into the dumpster fire we all agree was 2016. And how can we avoid that? He wants to be liked. He wants your support. Threaten to pull it in mass numbers if he doesn’t behave himself. Get him to fix his dangerous cabinet. Make sure the house and senate don’t allow a morally questionable person on the supreme court. Speak up and speak loudly. Make you voice heard with ours. We can’t do this without you.
